About 3,000 people, many of them children, drown every year in the United States. Many more suffer serious, irreversible injury in near-drowning incidents.
Drowning is the leading cause of all accidental deaths among small children (one to four years of age) and the second leading cause among all children from age 1 to 14.
Drownings can occur in public and private swimming pools, lakes and ponds, spas, hot tubs and even in bathtubs. Brain damage can result after four minutes of submersion.
As a board member of the The Children’s Safety Village (CSV) of Central Florida, attorney Richard Schwamm has extensive experience in the area of children pool safety. Please read more about his advocacy for pool safety here.
